The Higashi Autism School (HAS) in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi is run by Higashi Autism Trust. HAS is a multi-department, campus based day-boarding private Specialist School set up in collaboration with Musashino Higashi Gakuen School (MHS), Japan. This is the third Higashi School after Tokyo and Boston. The Educational Method of the School is based on The Daily Life Therapy Method of Dr Kiyo Kitahara, founder of MHS, who fifty years ago developed this unique pedagogy for educating autistic children, which has increased in robustness and scale over the years.
Our objectives are to promote good learning outcomes, develop attention and interest-taking among autistic pupils thus paving their way for skill development and for engaging in programmatic learning throughout the day and work actions voluntarily.
At HAS, autistic students are provided education in individualized 1:1 teaching as well as in small group classes of 6 students each. The school has a high teacher to student ratio, support staff, caregivers, open, landscaped and green campus, play fields, cycling tracks, therapy rooms, spacious and tidy classrooms with ergonomic environment and schedulers of pictures and words to visually present information and cue activities of the day, personal care coaches and Modular Mobile ADL Lockers, fine dining facilities.
Performance of Students is reported on the basis of AGE (Assessment Goals & Evaluation). Besides Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, parents will be assisted with specific know-how, seminars for attaining the goals earmarked for their child.
The Higashi principle is: ‘Education of children is conducted as joint operation of teachers and parents to obtain life rhythms of learning and daily living habits.’ Elaborate instructions and study methods nourish the abilities of children. Parent collaboration is an important element of our School mission.
HAS caters to only those children who are on the Autism Spectrum.
