The Educational Method of the School will be based on The Daily Life Therapy Method of Dr Kiyo Kitahara, founder of Musashino Higashi Gakuen School (MHS), Japan, who fifty years ago developed this unique pedagogy for educating autistic children. Beginning with small children, it addresses the educational requirements into growing up years as teens and young adults. The educational training programme under Daily Life Therapy is unique as it is scalable to different phases of a child’s growth and the focus is on mitigating the gaps in learning due to developmental deficits.
Dr Kitahara believed that beneath the shell of autism, is a student waiting to be uncovered. Grounded in perseverative teaching and repetitious practice, the Daily Life Therapy in the Indian context of Autism has four anchors – Daily Life Therapy, Subject Learning, Group Education and Education for achieving social independence.
Dr Kitahara said, “if the child cannot do it at the first trial, do it 10 times. If 10 times are not enough, repeat it 100 times”; It works to build Physical Stamina, Emotional Stability and Intellectual Stimulation. The elaborate proprietary Higashi Manuals will guide the implementation of the trademarked Daily Life Therapy method in Higashi Autism School, New Delhi.
